The Artist’s Studio by Jan Josef Horemans I (Antwerp 1682-1759)

The February session of PDF online focuses on painting practices. PRAKSIS’s founder and director, Nicholas John Jones will start the conversation by opening his own work in progress for discussion, and welcomes you to present and discuss your own work, ideas, and interests in painting in this productive group setting.

BOOK YOUR PLACE

There are 8 places for this session and booking is essential in order to coordinate the online group. The session will be conducted through the communication platform Zoom.

To reserve a spot please email: pdf@praksisoslo.org.`

PDF is free to join and held in English due to transnational setting.

HOW TO SHARE WORK

Each participant has around 15 minutes to share their current artistic activity. PDF’s focus is on works and ideas in progress, so please do not present finished works or projects. The session will be limited to sharing work via your electronic device. Ways of sharing practice could include:

  • Screen sharing, which enables others to see slide shows or content directly from your laptop.

  • A show and tell method, where physical objects, performances or tours can be presented via the inbuilt camera on your device.

  • Lead a discussion or voice ideas, with or without a visual presentation.

MORE ABOUT NICHOLAS JOHN JONES

Nicholas is an artist and a co-ordinator of cultural projects, events and publications living in Oslo. In his painting practice, Nicholas considers each canvas as a paragraph in an extended essay that questions his own drive to make paintings. Works can be shown individually but are more often presented in constellations that present differing resonant moments in his broader process.

Nicholas holds an MFA in Fine Art Painting from Slade School of Art, London and was a participant in Curator Lab at Konstfack, Stockholm. His writing has appeared in publications including Artforum, Billedkunst, Kunstkritikk and FiskFrisk. Selected recent exhibitions include: The Continuous Image, Oceans Apart, Manchester (2020), Painting Project, LNM, Oslo (2019); P1: Filling Station, She Will, Ski (2018); Detroit Kunsthall, Studio 17, Stavanger (2018); The Studio Chronicles, RH Contemporary, New York (2015); Painting About Painting, Simmons & Simmons, London (2014), Continuum of Ceaseless Change, APT London, (2014); Rest, Lion+Lamb, London (2014); It’s Very Quiet Here, Gowen Contemporary, Genève, Switzerland (2014); Head to Head, Standpoint, London (2014) & Rogue Projects, Manchester (2013); Taking Note or The Curious Eye, National University of Ireland, Galway, Ireland (2013).
