You talkin’ to me? – An Art Mediator's Handbook is a publication for organisers at all career stages who seek to create relationships between art and its actual and potential publics.
Through visualisations, conversations and essays, this book surveys examples of good practice in creating relationships between art and its actual and potential publics, with the aim of supporting the art field’s wider, ongoing collective effort to make the arts and society equitable, accessible and welcoming. It offers perspectives from varied areas of the arts, ranging from grassroots initiatives to museums; and across residencies, biennials, publishing, exhibitions, publicity materials and workshops. It encourages reflection on local and international goals, social contexts, and the impact of new technologies and global challenges. It asks, who do you think of as “the public”? Who might get overlooked, and why?
You talkin’ to me? was produced by PRAKSIS (Oslo) and Art Encounters Foundation (Timișoara), as part of the collaboration Intersections – Art, Knowledge and Society, made possible by support from Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway through the EEA and the Norway Grants.
