For Oslo Kulturnatt 2019, PRAKSIS has headed into the attic and rediscovered an array of goodies and oddments – artworks and after-thoughts, messages and mementos – that testify to three and a half years of intense, challenging, funny and rewarding activity.
Since 2016 PRAKSIS has worked with over 150 individuals: artists, curators, writers, musicians, dancers, children, young people and other creatives from Oslo and all around the world. All of them have embraced the PRAKSIS spirit: forming tightly-knit temporary communities with the goal of developing creative practice, exchanging knowledge, supporting one another and incubating new ideas. Many of the residencies’ most valuable outcomes have been ephemeral or unquantifiable – shifts in thinking, the building of relationships, the achievement of personal breakthroughs. The production of concrete objects hasn’t been our priority. However, reviewing the diverse material record that has built up since PRAKSIS’s launch has proved really moving. It’s put us back in touch with the many distinctive personalities and wonderful moments that have made the residencies so meaningful – and reminded us (the PRAKSIS team) how we too have learnt and grown.
We hope that our unorthodox selection from the stores, plus accompanying short histories, will interest and entertain you – and offer insights into the talented, generous, inventive family of residents who now form PRAKSIS’s alumni.
